Growing chicks should have ad lib access to the different phases of feeds available and clean cool
drinking water should be available at all times. The feed intake of birds younger than 10 days can be stimu-
lated by slightly dampening the ration. Mix the two rations when changing over from one to the next in
order to facilitate a gradual changeover.
The quartz type stone provided should vary from smaller than 3 mm for young chicks to 15mm for adult birds.
Two to four weeks before starting the breeding season, breeding activity should be stimulated by flush
feeding, followed by using the breeding ration.
Overfeeding of breeding pairs should be avoided as this can reduce egg fertility.
